Today’s Destination - Australia

August 26, 2007

Since I have this dream of travelling to different places in the world, I decided to, once in a while, write about the places I want to visit. Just a disclaimer though, I am no subject matter expert. I haven’t been to these places (just planning to ;) ). So please bear with me. If you have things to add, please feel free to do so ;)

So I’m going to close my eyes and let my imagination wander to our destination today: Australia. I have three places in mind: Sydney, Darling Harbour and Melbourne.

Let’s start with Sydney. Sydney is a metropolitan area and is the most populous city in Australia. It is also Australia’s largest financial center where you can find the Australian stock exchange. Two of Sydney’s most popular tourist spots are the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. I would love to see the Sydney Opera House as my mother in law has been raving about it when she went there. It would also be interesting to note that the Harbour bridge is the widest long-span bridge in the world and the highest steel arch bridge according to the Guineess Book of World Record. I am getting excited by the minute! I wish I was like Marlin and Dory of Disney-Pixar’s Little Nemo and just swim to Sydney but alas I’m not. But at least I get to stay at a Sydney Hotel when I am there. ;)

Next stop would be a 20 minute walk away from the Sydney Opera house. Darling Harbour - one of the world’s great waterfront destinations. Darling Harbour is a great place to just relax and unwind. It has a lot of attractions like the Sydney Aquarium (can Nemo be here? lol!), The Powerhouse Museum and of course the Harbourside Shopping Centre. If you are already in Sydney, getting here is pretty easy, you can take a ferry or water taxi, by the Sydney Monorail or Metro Light Rail. But since I want to be where the action is, I’d probably stay in a Darling Harbour Hotel.

Let’s leave the Harbour for a minute and just go back there after. For now, let’s visit Melbourne. It is less than 200 years old and is a very modern city. It has a futuristic design which adds a fascinating mix of architecture. With a constanyly changing skyline, it is indeed a place worth going to. Melbourne is all about lifestyle so it is no surprise that it has been named the world’s most liveable city (according to an international poll). They have a notoriously changeable weather though but I’m used to that. Heh! So what can you see in Melbourne? There are a lot but I’d love to visit Melbourne Zoo and the Melbourne Aquarium. It would be fascinating I am sure. There’s also a Camera Museum! Hmm interesting! With all the many places to visit, I’d probably would want to stay at a Melbourne Hotel (at least for one night). And oh, If you are planning to visit, August 30 is Melbourne Day so there’s going to be a lot of fun activities there I am sure. ;)

So let’s go back to real time. Sigh! I sure am including Australia in my next travel plans. Wouldn’t you?

I Am Moving - Again.

How is everyone? Hope you’re all well. I am setting aside time to update this blog - more for my sanity than anything else.

I’ve packed my things in the office as I will be assigned to a different site come Monday. It was a bittersweet moment. I was sad because I considered “Pioneer” as my home - career wise. Eversince I started with the company I started there. The builidng was just set up and I was a “Pioneer” in that account. I was sad saying goodbye with the friends I have, the camaraderie we have, the lunches and the ‘yosi’ breaks we had.

At the same time, I am happy and excited about the new challenges I am about to face, the people I will meet and friends I will make. After all, I won’t be moving continents. I will be just minutes away. :)

I guess, life’s just like that and as always, I will be strong and cope. Wish me luck!

To Germany We Will Go

August 18, 2007

The husband and I recently received an invitation to visit Germany by our dear friends Carl and Ivy. They’ve been staying there for quite some time now and they are raving about Germany’s beauty. I am excited beyond you can imagine. The husband is skeptical about the costs but what the heck. It’s not everyday you get to travel right? Besides, the couple has offered they’re place for us to stay in just in case. My apologies for the lack of modesty lol!

I am particularly interested in visiting Berlin and Vienna .

Berlin interests me specifically because it is a major center in European politics, culture, media and science. I would love to see the Anne Frank Zentrum which is the German partner of the Ann Frank’s House Amsterdam. Isn’t Ann Franks life interesting?

Vienna is another place worth going to. It is the capital of Austria. It is also it’s largest city. Vienna is also Austria’s cultural, political and economic center. Who wouldn’t want to visit a city that was awarded a UNESCO World heritage site? I remember a movie starring Mandy Moore where she portrayed the president daughter. Sorry I forgot the title but what stuck to me was Mandy swimming on the Danube river. No, it wasn’t Mandy Moore who stuck to my mind but the beauty of the view. Yes, the river Danube is in Vienna and I’d really want to go to Danube Island. I hear the view there is magnificent!

I’ve been blabbering, but of course I would never end this post without telling you about great deals on Hotels in Berlin and Hotels in Vienna. So click the links away and you’ll never go wrong. For a translated page, you can click these links: Hotels in Berlin and Hotels in Vienna.

If you go there before I do, pretty please, send me a postcard. :) And if the husband is reading this, we are definitely going to Germany. i don’t know when or how. But we will. ;)

Rainy Days are Here

It’s the rainy season here in my part of the world. Well, it’s more like typhoon season actually. It’s been raining for a couple of days now coupled with strong winds.

There are days when I feel good about the rain. I mean, after the scorching summer, it’s a relief. It feels so good sleeping at night snuggled up warmly under the blankets beside the husband. Or maybe drinking hot chocolate while looking through the window watching the rain and smelling the scent of rain soaked grass.

But sometimes, I think about the families whose homes and livelihood are ravaged by the storms. I feel sad thinking about where they would stay or get their next meal. When the rain stops, how do they start building their lives again? Sigh. I wish I could help more but the only thing I can do now is lift them up to God in prayer.

Ahh..here comes the rain again. It comes and goes. The sky cloudy, the sun nowhere to be found. It looks gloomy alright but who says I have to be gloomy too?

That’s about it for me. Toodles!

My Dream Ride

August 5, 2007

I remember when I was a teenager (it’s was not that long ago, promise! :p ) , I would often drool at the cars that the stars use at the oscars. I mean, wouldn’t you? Those sleek long cars with everything inside, and the chauffer isn’t bad either! Fast forward a couple of years later, preparing for our wedding, there I was drooling again, this time for my bridal car - you guessed it right, I wanted to get a limo for a bridal car.

But fate wasn’t on my side then, We couldn’t afford to have one. Besides, i felt that the price was too much for me to use it for just a couple of hours. It didn’t stop me from dreaming and like I previously said, dreaming for me means scouring the world wide web for great deals. Believe me there are quite a number of limo rentals out there. Am I crazy or what? lol! I was surprised to find that there are even taxi limo services nowadays! Isn’t that exciting?

Well, if you can afford to rent one (or even buy one for that matter), I suggest you go and do so. I can just imagine what a wonderful experience it’ll be! you’ll tell me all about it won’t you? :)

Hecticness

Okay, I know there’s no such word but that’s all I could think of to explain how my life has been for the past weeks. You know how it is, when you know you’ve been given the same amount of time as everyone’s else but it seems you don’t have enough. But hey, I’m not complaining here, I am perfectly happy of how things are going, I just wish I had more time, lol!

So what has kept me busy? Well, besides work, work and more work, the husband recently had an open cholecystectomy. He had been complaining of abdominal pains since last year but when we had it checked at the ER of a certain hospital, the doctor there said it was just dyspepsia. So when the husband had the abdominal pains quite frequently the past month, we thought he already had ulcer so we went to another hospital.

When the uppper abdominal ultrasound results came out, we got the surprise of our lives. He had a 2.9cm gallstone and his gall bladder was already inflammed. Needless to say, his doctor had him admitted to the hospital immediately to remove his gall bladder completely, along with the gall stone.

The husband is okay though. The operation was success. He is recovering and recovering fast. I thank God for that.

After a day of rest, I went back to work and worked I did! I had so many backlogs I had to keep up of a lot of things. Thank God I was able to keep up to speed with everything.

I know that it doesn’t really sound hectic, but i believe hecticness is different for every people. And I know it’s boring, but I’m happy - really! Happy where I am, content with how my career is going. Happy with how our family bonded after a serious issue a couple of months back. It is during these moments that I realize I may not have everything I want, but I am happy - content and happy.
